UNTOLD COWBOY

Hollywood has mythologized the historical reality of working cowboy life into the fabricated concept of the uniquely white American hero immortalized in Western folklore. Untold Cowboy is the first of a series of editorials that began with the clear goal to deconstruct the myth of the white heroic cowboy and through remaking that image to acknowledge the contributions Indigenous and Black people have made to the ranching and rodeo industry. Our editorial develops relationships with the omitted past to reimagine the archetypal cowboy uniform and challenge our shared image of what the cowboy represents today.
